After popular head football coach Abe Martin hung up his whistle following the 1966 season, TCU tapped former player Fred Taylor ’48 to lead the Frogs. He presided over the program for four seasons and compiled a 15–25–1 record, but he was fired before the last game of the 1970 season. Still, his Frogs were above .500 in the Southwest Conference two of his years, including two wins over Texas A&M, four over Baylor, one against Texas. (It was the last one in Austin until this season.) Today, at age 92, Taylor drives a tractor on his farm in Irdell, Texas, and still cheers on the Frogs from his home in Granbury.
