A redesigned TCU-themed specialty license plate by My Plates will benefit the TCU general scholarship fund. The plates are available as of this week and start at $55 a year. Personalization costs extra.

The new plate features a strip of purple across the top and bottom and the arched TCU and horned frog logo, commonly used by TCU Athletics.  The new look replaces the design that’s been available since 1992.

The number of letters chosen determines the plate price and how much of a contribution is passed along to TCU, My Plates said. Previously, each license plate sold delivered $22 in scholarship money. New plates with maximum personalization could more than triple that amount, the company said.

“Last year, TCU had 704 plates on the road, raising more than $21,000 for scholarships,” said My Plates president Steve Farrar. “This new design not only looks good but should mean more money per plate goes to TCU scholarships.”

Customers may order plates as gifts and purchase for a 1-, 5- or 10-year commitment. Longer term deals yield better prices. There’s even a layaway option.

Plates will arrive at a designated county tax office about three weeks after ordering.

Customers who own the old plate design can switch to the new look and carry over the existing personalization by calling 888-7MY-PLAT. All other orders can be made online at www.myplates.com/go/TCU. Customers can view what thier plate will look like before purchase and check the availability of personalized messages.
