In a chance encounter in Italy, Kerry ’73 and Clarence Scharbauer III ’73 met fellow Frog David Rigo ’80.
You never know where you’ll bump into a fellow Frog.
Just ask Clarence Scharbauer III ’73 and David Rigo ’80.
In April, Scharbauer, chairman of the TCU Board of Trustees, was vacationing in Italy with his wife, Kerry ’73, looking for a lunch spot in the remote Tuscan town of Volpaia. They made their way to a small restaurant and once there, Scharbauer struck up a conversation with another patron.
“He started talking in perfect English and said he spent several years in Texas and went to college there,” Scharbauer recently recalled. “I asked him where, and he said TCU.”
Rigo told Scharbauer he follows the Frogs from his home in Tuscany, reading The TCU Magazine cover-to-cover to keep up with campus news. Before long, they were flashing the Frog sign and taking photos.
To further prove his school pride, Rigo went upstairs to fetch his girlfriend’s dog, proudly decked out in a TCU collar.
“He’s a true Horned Frog, a real fan,” Scharbauer adds. “He loves TCU.”
