Steel framing and supports emerged in March from the site of Amon G. Carter Stadium, creating a shell of the future home of the Horned Frogs. Throughout the month, construction crews finished pier work on the west and north sides and completed the elevated concrete “party” deck on the north end. Crews also installed “rakers” just beyond the north end zone, which hold the pre-cast seating units that will be the new two-tiered seating near the video board.

“We have a stadium look now on the north end,” said Ross Bailey, associate athletics director for operations.

The west side also has framing and supports installed for the second-level flooring system and club areas, said Patrick Mucker, project manager for the TCU Physical Plant.

Excavation work dominated the first months of the project after December’s implosion, which went as planned, he said.

The $105 million project is expected to be ready in time for the football team’s Sept. 16 home opener. The west side’s upper deck will not be accessible during the 2011 season but will open for the 2012 campaign.

“We have an ambitious timeline, but we’re on schedule, barring weather delays,” Bailey said.

In addition to the stadium, construction has begun on the new athletics weight room. To make space, the connector between the Sam Baugh Indoor Practice Facility and Cox Field to Daniel-Meyer Coliseum has been removed, as well as all of the paving in the area. Site work and infrastructure prep will occupy most of April. The weight room will open by fall.
