Students adopt creed in wake of drug bust
February’s news of a campus drug bust and the subsequent backlash didn’t sit well with Student Government Association President Brent Folan and fellow campus leaders.
So in the spring, the 33-member body and Intercom — a group of student organization leaders — hashed out an 18-word student creed, which passed in April. It reads: As TCU students, we commit to excellence by serving with respect, learning with passion, and leading with integrity.
This fall, the creed became part of the first-year student experience, said Pearce Edwards, who helped pen the phrase.
Upperclass students introduced it at Frog Camps and during freshmen orientation sessions. Folan recited it with the Class of 2016 at Chancellor’s Assembly.
Folan said the Student Government Association plans to pay for a stone monument on which to etch the creed. No location has been selected yet.
