Clark Cavin '95 (MS) earns Excellence in Education Award from TCU College of Education

Clark Cavin, specialist in special education, coaching and administration, was honored by the TCU College of Education Alumni Association.

Back in 1994, Clark Cavin wasn’t so sure what he was going to do with his double major in religion and journalism from Baylor University.

That “what-am-I-going-to-do” feeling is a common concern for recent graduates but it is not an indicator of future failure.

Cavin is living proof.

He’s the winner of the Excellence in Education Award for 2009. He was honored with the award by the TCU College of Education Alumni Association this spring.

After finishing his undergraduate degree, Cavin cast about in odd jobs and eventually volunteered to be the football team chaplain at Fort Worth’s Western Hills High School.

The experience inspired him. He decided to go to TCU for a master’s degree in education with an emphasis in special education in 1995.

He’d found his calling.

After TCU, Cavin joined the Western Hills teaching team as a specialist in behavioral disorders. He also served as a coach for several high school sports, including football, basketball, track and girls’ soccer. In 1999, he was named Fort Worth Texas Region Coach of the Year.

He later earned his doctoral degree in leadership and behavior disorders from the University of North Texas.

Cavin now is a respected educator who serves as principal at R.C. Loflin Middle School in Joshua, and he continues to teach, only now at TCU and other area universities.
