Frog fans welcomed the football team back to campus with cheers, signs and hugs.
The team returned Tuesday afternoon after the 17-10 loss to the sixth-ranked Boise State Broncos in the Fiesta Bowl, solemnly disembarking from chartered buses at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
Senior linebacker Daryl Washington told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram the loss won’t take away from what was a landmark season.
"We don’t want to hang our heads low; we had a great season," said Washington, who was part of a class of seniors who won a program record 42 games. "It’s been a lot of fun, a lot of memories with this team. I wish we could have gotten the win, but unfortunately we didn’t."
Quarterback Andy Dalton said the loss will serve as inspiration for next season.
"I feel bad for all those seniors to have to go out like that," he said. "That’s not how we wanted to send them off. But we’ve got a lot of guys returning, and we’ll use this as motivation for next year."
