“Playful Interaction: Unlocking the Mysteries of Nurturing Relationships” features the work of Karyn Purvis and David Cross of the Institute of Child Development.

TCU’s Institute of Child Development has released the second in its series of Healing Families DVDs that give specific tips for those raising children at-risk or developmentally challenged due to trauma.

Titled “Playful Interaction: Unlocking the Mysteries of Nurturing Relationships,”
it features the work of Karyn Purvis, director of the Institute, and David Cross, associate director, who were spotlighted in The TCU Magazine Spring 2006 cover story “Finding the Real Child.”

The DVD outlines the importance of play and provides practical examples of playful interaction from the Institute's Hope Connection Camp.

The first DVD of the series, Healthy Touch, completed in 2008, explores research about touch and provides practical applications for adding healthy touch into one’s daily life.

The Healing Families DVD series is made possible by grants the Institute has received from The Rees-Jones Foundation, Harold Simmons Foundation, Lesley Family Foundation, The Meadows Foundation, and The Mabel Peters Caruth Fund at Communities Foundation of Texas.

“This project is a source of great joy because it will enhance education in the classroom, promote outreach in the community; and will support the Institute of Child Development through DVD sales,” said Dr. Purvis.
